Overview

Dr. Julie Gottman presents statistics related to domestic violence and stresses the importance of including domestic violence in the assessment phase of couples therapy. She introduces the research that revealed two types of domestic violence; situational and characterological. She identifies the two types of perpetrators in characterological violence; pit bulls and cobras. She presents a theory about situational domestic violence and a proposed group therapy method. She describes the Couples Together Against Violence (CTAV) model and findings from the program. Drs. John and Julie Gottman answer questions from the workshop audience.
